  2. Do I have to use webmail, or can I use my own email program?
We offer webmail with our accounts, but you may also configure your browser to download from our Email server or to use your own email account
  3. I can’t get on the network – what can I do?
    • Your Computer must have a 802.llb compliant device installed
    • You must select SSID: FmWiFi - for hotspots. Contact fmWiFi for Neighborhood Networks.
    • You must disable encryption for hotspots, contact fmWiFi for Neighborhood Networks
  4. How reliable is the connection?
WiFi uses IEEE802.11b which is a reliable international standard for data communications. Unlike other media it can however be effected by weather and interference from objects such as buildings. It may also be sensitive to movement such as inside an automobile.
  5. How secure is the connection?
All of Full Moon WiFi is protected by a security certificate. This is used for secure login and secure online transactions such as credit card purchases. The Network Neighborhoods have additional WEP standard encryption as well as hidden network ID.
  6. How fast is the connection?
Connection speed varies with the number of users as with any ISP. It is faster than dialup and has been tested as fast as 1.5M bit/sec with a standard notebook PC in Nevada City. Typical speeds will depend on time of day but will likely have a 100-500K bit/sec download speed.
  7. Can I use my account at other hotspots?
Full Moon WiFi accounts work anywhere within the Full Moon WiFi system including Hotspots.
  8. Where else are your hotspots?
We currently have hotspots in Nevada City and Grass Valley California.
  9. I think I got a virus from your Hotspot.
Hotspots do not produce viruses, they come from the internet, often as attachments to mail. We strongly recommend that all internet users have virus protection and personal firewall software such as Norton or MacAfee installed on their PC’s. FmWiFi does not provide these with our service. They are however available from computer stores and from the internet.
  10. Why shouldn’t I just use DSL, Cable, or Satellite?
    • Not all broadband services such as satellite, DSL and digital cable are available in all areas
    • Our service is usually less expensive than other services.
      • Satellite can be as high as $600 for the initial equipment and run $60-$85/ month. It also has a “satellite delay” which is a ½ second delay from the orbiting satellite. This is annoying to many users.
      • The so called “low cost” DSL is often a teaser rate for a limited time. FmWiFi is comparable in price and in most cases offer higher data rates. We also offer the freedom of wireless roaming inside our system.
    • Cable modems are highly sensitive to the number of users. They are also known to have security issues with other users on the same shared network. Cable for data is not available be in many areas.
    • Our system does not tie up a phone line and can save the cost of an additional phone line.
  11. Do I get a credit during outage?
No – we strive to maintain a high uptime for our entire system.
  12. How will rain, snow, and trees affect my connection?
Like any wireless media, including cell telephones and satellite receivers, physical conditions can effect reception. Our experience is that these effects are minimal.
  13. Is this reliable enough to use for business?
FmWiFi networks are as reliable as any ISP or WISP. Businesses or individuals with mission critical data connection requirements should always have a backup connection. FmWiFi uses it’s own system for its business needs.
  14. Will this work in my neighborhood?
Full Moon WiFi will conduct a site survey by request, free of charge for all neighborhoods we service. This will determine the suitability of our service in a particular neighborhood.
  15. I have a special event, how can I announce it to your wireless users?
Nonprofit and community oriented events can be listed on our website(s) free of charge. We offer advertising space for commercial enterprises. Please contact Full Moon WiFi for details.
  16. Can I get a discount for paying for an entire year?
We offer a 10% discount for paying the entire year in advance.
  17. Why do you disconnect me after just 15 minutes?
The free service offered in some of our hotspots is for sampling our system and quick access such as Email. If a longer connection time is needed we suggest you purchase an account. They are available by the day, week or month.
  18. Why do you allow my children to view undesirable content?
As stated in our End User License Agreement we are a internet service provider meaning we only provide the connection to the internet, not the content. We do not monitor, filter or specify internet content. All users of our systems must be over 18 years of age or have parental consent. We recommend parents of minor children consider industry standard content blockers such as Net Nanny or Parent Watch.
  19. I’m in Grass Valley, do I have to sign-up in Nevada City?
We will soon be offering credit card services on our website. Currently you have to signup at the Nevada City Postal Co.
  20. I forgot my password.
Please contact FmWiFi 530.265.4938 to get your password. You will be required to answer the question you answered on the signup form.
  21. Will you host my domain name?
Full Moon WiFi does not currently offer Domain Name hosting. We can however direct you to our partners at Spiral Studios: 530.470.0830
  22. I need 6 email accounts.
FmWiFi can accommodate special needs such as additional Email or user accounts. Please Contact FmWiFi for additional details.
  23. Do you backup our email?
Email is stored on our server until is it read and deleted or downloaded by the user. Due to the large data storage requirements FmWiFI does not back up Email accounts in the unlikelyevent of a server crash.
  24. I am getting too much SPAM in my email account.
Although some SPAM filtering is done by FmWiFi we strongly recommend that all users obtain 3rd party virus, firewall and spam filters to suite their own particular needs.
